Family Friendly Outdoor Summer Activities!

Community

The PNW is known for being very dark and gloomy, but we are also known for having the BEST summers on the west coast! Not to mention we are surrounded by beautiful landscapes that SHINE all on their own during the spring and summer months.

Since we are all a little antsy to get outdoors and enjoy the nice weather, here are some great outdoor summer activities that you can do with family and friends!

PORT OF EVERETT'S JETTY ISLAND

Jetty island is a man-made 2 mile long island that is located directly in front of the Everett Marina! Some would say it has the best beach in the Puget Sound. With its beautiful sandy beach (yes, actual sand!) and shallow warm water, it is the perfect little day trip to spend with family & friends!

There is a guest boat dock that is first come first serve, which means the island is open year round to anyone that has a personal watercraft. If you are traveling by boat, make sure to get there early during peak summer days! Since the island is located right in front of the Everett Marina; kayaking, paddleboarding, and rafting are other popular ways you can get across and to the Jetty. Always remember to WEAR A LIFEJACKET if you are traveling by personal watercraft! For anyone that doesn't have a personal watercraft, you can make a reservation for the small walk-on ferry that gives you a short 5 minute ride over to the Jetty.

 Our recommendation:

There is no electricity or running water on the Jetty! Make sure to pack accordingly and bring extra food & water! Plan to make this a day trip! Although it is possible to only spend a couple hours adventuring the Jetty, you will most likely want to stay longer. This is a HOTSPOT for the extreme sport of kiteboarding! Try to stay until the afternoon so that you can watch the kiteboarders in action, you will want to see it!

Always remember to PACK IN & PACK OUT!

Year round (by personal watercraft)

FORT CASEY HISTORICAL STATE PARK

If you're up for heading to a bigger island, you can head over to Whidbey Island and check out Fort Casey Historical State Park! Fort Casey is one of three forts called the “Triangle of Fire” that were built in the 1800’s to protect the entrance of the Puget Sound. It's full of history and is a great outdoor activity that will make for a fun day! AND it is dog friendly, bonus!!

Fort Casey offers walking trails, camping, views of Puget Sound & Olympic Mountains, and most importantly the Fort! When adventuring around the Fort you will see the Admiralty Head Lighthouse, bunkers, and historic guns. This is the perfect ADVENTURE for someone who loves history!

Our recommendation:

Make this a day trip! Pack a lunch and make a pit stop at Deception Pass to have a picnic. The views are AMAZING! It might even encourage you to plan another trip just to check out Deception Pass. The best time to go is in the early summer months, June or July. Lastly, bring a flashlight! We hear there are underground tunnels that make for a spooky little adventure. ;)
